A blog for lovers of both pets and crafty things

Mimi is one of my cats and biggest culprit of counter surfing, particularly while I'm trying to cook. I think the kitties love food as much or maybe even more than me. This blog is dedicated to Mimi, Gabby and Peat who are my little furry assistants with all my knitting, sewing, cooking and crafty projects.

Target Shower Curtains

I'm obsessed right now with shower curtains at Target.  They range in price from $19 to $25.  Some of the fabrics are stunning.   I'm going to reupholster a chair with the blue one (see pic below.)  I already covered my cork board with it.  Another, I plan on making throw pillows with for my couch (second pic below.)  Oh the ideas.  Shoot, you could make clothes out of the stuff.  The ones I speak of are either 100% cotton or poly cotton mix.  As I continue to make more things out of them, I'll post.

Fancy corkboard project

Another use of my awesome Target shower curtain!  I picked up a framed painting at Goodwill for $13 just for the frame.  (Another story is that painting.  See end of post.)  I also got some cork board tiles at Fred Meyer.  I took apart the painting and set aside all but the foam core backing.  Glued the cork tiles to the foam core with some Elmer's, trimmed the excess cork.  Covered the cork with my fabulous shower curtain fabric, stretched it tight and put into the frame. Voila!
About that painting.  Turns out the ugly purple and pink monstrosity has a nice watercolor painting underneath.  (It's not a print.)  It is much nicer without the matching pink and purple mat they framed it in.  It doesn't go with my decor at all, so am hoping a friend might want it.

Multiple uses for simple items

I was sitting here today wishing I had my desk set up the way I wanted. I want a big bulletin board above it for notes and cards and such.  Then I was thinking a white board might be nice for quick notes.  I started perusing Target.com, my favorite place right now.  Then I looked over at this little tray I bought there.  It's their outdoor dishes line and it's supposed to be an appetizer tray, but I bought it to put my mail in when I come in the door.  Because it's for outdoor it's a plastic tray.  *lightbulb!*  I got out a dry erase marker and sure enough!  Best looking, quick note taking, dry erase board you can find.
